About NEREO

Marine science.
Real data.
Global conservation.

We are a team of scientists and engineers committed to digitising the world's most demanding field work for marine wildlife conservation.

Our mission

Born from the needs of researchers in the field

Scientific teams carrying out marine wildlife surveys needed a tool that would work in extreme conditions: in an aircraft cabin, on the open sea, with no signal, under the sun and against the clock.

NEREO was born to answer exactly that need. Not as a technological experiment, but as a tool built from field scientific knowledge, designed with and for the researchers who use it.

"Monitoring marine wildlife cannot depend on tools that fail when they are needed most."

Objectives

What drives us

Marine conservation

Generate high-quality field data that underpins conservation decisions and marine ecosystem management policies internationally.

International standardisation

Ensure data are comparable across countries, campaigns and institutions, following the REMMOA and ASI protocols of ACCOBAMS.

Access for everyone

Make a first-class scientific tool available to researchers and institutions, including those with limited resources, at no licence cost.

The team

Who we are

A multidisciplinary team of scientists and engineers who share one vision: technology in the service of marine conservation.
